Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr Featured on The Rolling Stones Album

Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones are collaborating on new songs.

A representative for the Rolling Stones revealed to the Guardian that the 80-year-old founding member of The Beatles recently hit the studio in Los Angeles with Mick Jagger, 79, and Keith Richards, 79, where McCartney laid down a bass track for the band’s future album.

While Variety previously reported that both surviving members of The Beatles, McCartney and Ringo Starr, 82, would be featured on the album, a representative for the Stones told the publication that Starr was not involved with the band’s new release, which has yet to be officially announced, and McCartney played bass on one song.

The Stones’ 31st studio album will be their first album of original material since 2005’s platinum-certified “A Bigger Bang.” In 2016, they released “Blue & Lonesome,” an album of blues covers that received the 2018 Grammy Award for traditional blues album of the year. The Rolling Stones received their first Grammy Award in 23 years.

Variety reports that Andrew Watt will produce the band’s forthcoming project. The 32-year-old has worked on albums with a large range of renowned musicians and acts, including McCartney, Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Pearl Jam, and Eddie Vedder, and received the Grammy Award for producer of the year in 2021.

The Rolling Stones have been recording the album for the previous few weeks, and it is expected to enter the mixing phase soon, according to Variety. During the last few years, Jagger and Richards have hinted that new Rolling Stones music is on the way.

Jagger informed the Los Angeles Times in 2021 that the band had “a lot of tracks done,” albeit the recording process had been hampered by COVID-19 lockdowns.

Richards released a video on Instagram on January 11 wishing his fans a belated Happy New Year and said, “There’s some new music on the way, and hopefully we’ll get to meet you.”
