Later in my life, one of my childhood friends would tell me that his mother had retired to Marco Island. That brought back memories for me because my stepfather brought us there when we were very young. I don’t know if he was considering buying property there or what his motivation was. He did enjoy living in Florida, and he loved to fish. Maybe that had something to do with it. All I know is that I ventured out on a reef of coral, and as I overlooked the ocean, a beautiful memory was burned into my brain. Growing up in Florida and with my stepdad having a boat, there were many great memories of beaches and exploring tropical places off the beaten path. As the years go by, I have come to appreciate those memories more. Today, Marco Island is pretty much for seniors with lots of money. I qualify for the former but not the latter. But what’s a wonderful memory worth?
