Too Much Smart Phone Causing Cognitive Failures

According to new research published in the British Journal of Psychology, daily cognitive failures happen more often when people check their phones more often. But the new research also shows that some types of screen time are actually linked to less cognitive problems.

There are worries that using a smartphone is linked to the fact that people make mistakes in their thinking every day. Research has shown that using a smartphone a lot can lead to cognitive overload and less attentional control, which can make it easier to forget things, get distracted, and let your mind wander. Also, using a smartphone can be very distracting and annoying, which can make it hard to concentrate and finish tasks.

Andree Hartanto, an assistant professor of psychology at Singapore Management University and the study’s author, said, “This is a very interesting topic because smartphone use has become so common in recent years and has changed the way people talk to each other and get information in a big way.”

“It has been said that using a smartphone may hurt our brains, causing us to forget things and have trouble paying attention. But there isn’t a lot of proof. Given how many people use smartphones and how they might affect daily life, we think it’s important to study the link between smartphone use and cognitive problems in a more thorough way, using a daily diary approach and objective measures of smartphone use.
